Austria’s tourism committee wants Guide Michelin back and focuses on culinary arts

The focus of the most recent meeting of the tourism committee in Austria was on positioning the country as a pleasure and culinary destination. Members of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), the Greens and the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) have spoken out in favor of the return of the Guide Michelin gastronomy guide. This step is intended to increase the international visibility of Austria’s culinary offerings and promote the competitiveness of the tourism sector.

In addition to the culinary issue, the committee also addressed “tourism acceptance.” A resolution on the further development of performance measurement in tourism was passed by a majority. The aim is to record the attitude of the population towards tourism and to develop measures based on this.

Other topics such as the regular review of training companies, promotion of alpine infrastructure and equity strengthening were discussed but postponed.

These developments could be particularly interesting for gourmet restaurants and luxury hotels in Austria, as they could benefit from a stronger focus on quality and excellence in the tourism sector.
