Falco** closed in Leipzig
The renowned two-star restaurant Falco in the Westin Hotel in Leipzig, known for its exquisite cuisine and impressive location on the 27th floor, has unexpectedly closed its doors. Under the management of star chef Peter Maria Schnurr since 2005, Falco recently celebrated its 18th birthday. Schnurr, awarded “Chef of the Year” 2016 by Gault Millau, also gained fame through appearances on cooking shows such as “Kitchen Impossible” and “Top Chef Germany”.
The closure of Falco is the result of several factors. The restaurant’s management and the Westin Hotel emphasize that it was no longer economically viable and that the concept no longer fitted the times. In addition, an acute shortage of skilled workers, increased personnel costs and ever higher purchase prices for ingredients were cited as reasons for the closure. The hotel management describes the decision as “heartbreaking” and emphasizes that, despite all efforts, the economic challenges were too great.
Alternative employment opportunities are being sought in the hotel for the restaurant employees to ease the transition. This sudden development leaves both staff and guests with mixed feelings, as Falco was more than just a restaurant – it was a symbol of culinary excellence and innovation in Leipzig.
