Guide MICHELIN: Austria has 82 starred restaurants

The new MICHELIN Guide restaurant selection highlights Austria’s position as a first-class gourmet destination. With 82 award-winning Michelin-starred restaurants, including one new 3-star restaurant, 13 new 2-star establishments and 53 new 1-star addresses, the diversity and excellence of Austrian gastronomy is impressively recognized.
For the first time, the selection includes all regions of Austria. The guide emphasizes the balance between tradition and innovation and shows the strengths of gastronomy in both urban and rural areas.
3 stars for the Steirereck in the Stadtpark
An outstanding success: Vienna’s Steirereck restaurant in the Stadtpark achieves the highest accolade of three MICHELIN stars. Head chef Michael Bauböck and patron Heinz Reitbauer impress with their pared-down, light yet complex cuisine, which relies heavily on regional products. Sommelier René Antrag shines with his well-founded expertise.
13 new 2-star restaurants
In addition to the five existing addresses, 13 new establishments were awarded two stars. These include the Stüva in Ischgl, where Benjamin Parth delights with creative, top-class cuisine, and the Schwarzer Adler in Hall in Tirol, where Johannes Nuding combines tradition and modernity. Also worth mentioning is the Kräuterreich by Vitus Winkler, which has been awarded a Green Star for sustainability in addition to the two stars for its nature-loving cuisine.
53 new 1-star restaurants
The 2024 selection brings an impressive 53 new 1-star restaurants. Examples include the Forelle am Weißensee with its regional “Berg.See.Küche” and the Esszimmer – Everybody’s Darling in Vienna. Both rely on creative concepts that combine tradition and modernity.
Focus on further awards and sustainability
The MICHELIN Guide recognizes sustainable gastronomy with 33 Green Stars. These include establishments such as the Dreikanthof am Mahrbach and the Guat’z Essen restaurant in Stumm. The selection is complemented by 43 Bib Gourmand addresses for first-class value for money and three special awards for outstanding service, young talent and excellent sommeliers.
